Membership of the Waverley Bushwalking Club

How to join us? - It's EASY!

You need to complete two walks with the club before applying for membership - cost $5 per event.

Check out our Events Program and select only Easy or Easy/Medium day walks.

We suggest you start with easy walks if you are not experienced.

To book on a walk attend our next club meeting, where you can meet the leaders of the walks. Or contact our Membership Secretary - see below for contact details.

No need to buy special equipment to begin - see below.

Benefits of Membership

Waverley Bushwalking Club gives you the opportunity of sharing the beauty of the Australian bush with other like minded people.  It is a wonderful feeling to walk beside fast flowing mountain streams, to hear the calls of so many birds and to see a great variety of wild flowers. Information about the types of activities available is on the About Us page and in the Events Program.

One of the benefits of walking with a group is that by being with experienced people you will learn to walk in a safe manner following correct procedures. It is recommended that you read Walk Notes and Participants' Responsibilities.

If you have leadership experience you will be a great asset to the club. If not, and you would like to contribute to the club by leading walks, we will enable you to obtain these skills while on the track and at one of our leadership courses.

There are many other ways you can contribute to the bushwalking community. One is to get involved in the various Bushwalking Victoria committees and activities such as track maintenance and conservation.

What equipment should I have?

Initially we recommend you spend little or no money until you discover which activities you enjoy. Discussion with experienced members will reveal the pros and cons of their style of boots, backpacks etc. Personal preferences vary considerably. Specialised equipment will cost $50 - $300 (or more) per item, so you should be sure you will continue bushwalking and know which items are best for your choice of walks or camps.  Specialised bushwalking shops sell an extensive range of gear and many offer a 10% discount to Club Members.  Check out our suggested Clothing and Equipment for Day Bushwalks.

Cost of membership and joining the club

Fees for 2023 - 2024 are :
Joining Fee - $20,
Plus Annual Fee - Adult $45, Student / Pensioner $35, Associate $30.

When you are ready to join, you will be required to complete a membership application and pay the fees.
Details of the on line application (or a paper form if you cannot apply on line) are available from the Membership Secretary (see contact details below).
Please also print and complete our WBC-Personal Health Details – Emergency Information Form 230219 which is for you to keep and place in your day pack as indicated.
